A Space Exodus quirkily sets up an adapted stretch of Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey in a Middle Eastern political context. The recognisable music scores of the 1968 science fiction film are changed to arabesque chords matching the surreal visuals of Sansour’s film.

This incredibly personal and moving documentary brings the audience into Aleppo and the life of the filmmaker. In August 2012, Syrian photographer Issa Touma awoke to the dawn of the rebel uprising in the city of Aleppo. He spent the next nine days holed up in his apartment, filming the emerging civil war outside.

The theme of May is “Stateless” and explores the works of diaspora Syrian and Palestinian artists and their stories.

This month we will explore different genres: Experimental, Documentary, Animation, Science Fiction and Drama.
Starting off with this fantastic experimental piece by Hasan Tanji.

Sweat is a story that began from the sea of Palestine… the journey of the refugee towards an exile he didn’t chose, and that was forced upon him. A story of wars and conflicts, leaving behind a new exile each time, killing memories and creating new ones. The refugee remains in constant struggle with place and identity and tries to find stability in his unstable life. This time, the sea is the last resort.
