2020 LA AIR RESIDENCY CALL FOR APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN! DEADLINE: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2019

EPFC | September 25th, 2019

LA AIR invites local artists to utilize EPFC resources in creating and premiering new, experimental, documentary, and personal work over a two-month period in 2020. We especially encourage applications from artists interested in engaging with EPFC’s areas of specialty: small gauge film, progressive politics & community activism, alternative and handmade photochemical processes, local histories, multidisciplinary work, and expanded cinema. Additionally, we encourage artists to engage with the greater EPFC community during the course of their residency. Previous artists-in-residence have included public workshops, curatorial programs, multi-media collaborations and class visits as part of their residency. More info here!

Sandra de la Loza’s To Oblivion: The Speculators’ Eden Opens July 10 at LACE

EPFC | July 8th, 2019

Past LA AIR artist Sandra de la Loza has an exhibition opening at LACE on July 10, 7 – 10 pm.

In To Oblivion: The Speculators’ Eden de la Loza creates a portal inside LACE’s main gallery to transport us into a “disturbance zone,” a ghostly and haunted space that unveils fragmented stories of this land we call Los Angeles. In excavating the past, unsettling glimpses of the city of the future surface via an immersive installation comprised of an archive of shadows, dematerialized artifacts, performative poems, and spectral ruins and stereoscopes.

The exhibition runs July 10 – September 1, 2019, and includes a selection of films by EPFC students and Co-op Members curated by Penelope Uribe-Abee.

LA AIR resident Carmina Escobar at REDCAT

EPFC | November 9th, 2018

Please join our current LA AIR artist-in-residence Carmina Escobar from Friday, November 9 to Saturday, November 10, 2018 at REDCAT for her performance Pura Entraña.

An elaborately prepared piano hovers above the stage for Pura Entraña, a hyper-sounding textural performance by experimental vocalist and intermedia artist Carmina Escobar, who activates the installation Piano Suspendido (Suspended Piano) by Jerónimo Naranjo.

Their collaboration with the Mexican improvisation ensemble Der Bauch (José Pablo Jiménez, Deborah Silberer, Jerónimo Naranjo) and experimental luthier Carlos Chinchillas, explores the subject of vulnerability in its poetic sense.

A magic sonic/visual surrealist realization, Pura Entraña (Pure Gut) follows a route of perceptual narratives in a performance that seeks to connect the audience to the essential sounds/gestures from the bodies and voices of the performers, and the piano and its entrails.

Invited artists include Dorian Wood, Roxanne Steinberg, Oguri, Yulissa Maqueos and the Maqueos Family.

Visit REDCAT for more information.
