YOU WERE AN AMAZEMENT FROM THE DAY YOU WERE BORN: THE SHORT FILMS OF EMILY VEY DUKE AND COOPER BATTERSBY

Saturday, November 24 at 8 PM

Doors 7:30 pm; $5 admission.

Cooper Battersby and Emily Vey Duke have been working collaboratively for over 20 years. They work in installation, new media, curation and criticism, but their primary practice is in art video. Their work has been exhibited in galleries and at festivals in North and South America, Asia and throughout Europe, including The Whitney Museum, The Walker Center, The Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia), The Vancouver Art Gallery, The Power Plant, The New York Video Festival, Oberhausen, Impakt, The Images Festival, The Musee d’Art Contemporain de Montreal, and the International Film Festival of Rotterdam.

Their films are disarming and deceptively sweet, using animals, children, pop-music and colorful animation to engage themes of addiction, the death of god, bigotry and alienation. In 2012, a book about their work was published by Coachhouse Press, The Beauty Is Relentless.  In 2015, a book of Duke’s writing was published called The Illuminations Project. Duke and Battersby teach in the Transmedia Department in Syracuse, New York. FILMMAKERS IN ATTENDANCE!
