WHERE SHOULD THE BIRDS FLY? A FILM BY FIDA QISHTA

Friday December 11, Doors at 7:30 $5 Suggested Donation

Released in 2013, it is the first film about the tiny enclave of Gaza made by Palestinians living the reality of Israel’s crimes against humanity. It is the real story of two young women, survivors of Israel’s military attack on the people of Gaza between 27 December 2008 and 18 January 2009.  Both women were born in Gaza – Mona Samouni in 1999; and Fida Qishta, the filmmaker, in Rafah, in 1984. They represent the spirit and future of Palestinians. The film is a visual documentation of the Goldstone Report – and much more. Featuring live video footage of the Israeli atrocities, it also reveals the strength and hope, the humanity and humor that flourishes among the people of Gaza. Few films document so powerfully and personally the impact of modern warfare and sanctions on a civilian population. Previously, Fida has filmed day to day life under siege in Gaza, working alongside international human rights observers. Her commentary on the siege was published in The International  Herald Tribune. Her video reports of Israel’s ‘Operation Cast Lead’ were published widely including in the UK newspaper The Guardian, and in its weekly news magazine, The Observer.
