VHS VIDEO SOCIAL: GHOST WORLD and DARIA
THURSDAY, AUGUST 18 at 8PM
The anti-heroines take over in this VHS Video Social with Y2K sarcasm and post-cynicism that coexisted in a world reeling with bubblegum pop-timism.
GHOST WORLD (2001), the film adaptation of Daniel Clowes’s wry graphic novel, tells the offbeat coming-of-rage story of iconic Enid (and her friend Rebecca) the summer after high school graduation in a suburban wasteland. Enid’s subtle rebellions take place from anachronistic 50s-themed diners, a community college art class, to a prank-turned-friendship with Seymour (Steve Buscemi).
After her debut on BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD, Daria Morgendorffer joined the pantheon of MTV animation greats by surviving the company of high school paragons with her monotone wit.
Join us as we celebrate two satirists whose misadventures still resonate, or whatever.
