We kick off our 2018 lecture series with the amazing Erica Larsen and a journey of discovery into the subtle ways gender bias can be inserted into animated media and how to spot them! We will discuss how reoccurring narratives, character traits, designs and methods keep us stuck in the “wholesome” days of yore when female characters upheld gender norms. Next we will learn ways of spotting them, calling them out, and also striving to break the mold in our own world. The lecture will conclude with a group activity putting these methods into action. $10 Admission for this event. Advance sign up encouraged.
