Films by Michael Abitz, Nick Flessa, Katie Ebbitt, Nora Sweeney, Andrew Freeman, and Weston Lyon. Drawing a through line of the observed landscape and its use as both backdrop and focal point, the collected films amplify the character of location against subjects ranging from industrial movement to a casual day trip for two in the country. This confluence of the human imprint and documented surroundings results in a reoccurring sense of stasis throughout the program, at times allowing the films’ imagery to evoke hallucinations of the biological, the geological, and the ultra thin division between a personal past and present. Where a few films look to pronounce the enormity of emptiness in a land, they will all simultaneously echo the attendant relationships of human involvement via language, narrative, sound, and recorded performance
