When his Mother gets diagnosed with end-stage kidney cancer, Dario Guerrero takes a leave of absence from Harvard College to come home to Los Angeles and take care of her. Their battle against the disease leads them into the world of alternative medicine, where they find hope glimmering at a clinic just over the border. However, both Mother and son are undocumented.
