In this collaborative, interactive workshop open to young people ages 15 – 22, we will collectively consider the theme of migration narratives as we journey through the realms of analog video mixing and glitching. Using a 1990s video mixer, live camera feed, custom Tachyons+ gear, and found footage, you’ll create will new works of video art that you can use for all of your creative endeavors.

You’ll learn set-up and basics about signal flow, effects, cameras, feedback, and manipulation of found footage and the glitching of video images.

Workshop participants will create one short video art piece by the end of the session, combining images and spoken word. Participants are encouraged to bring found footage on physical media (DVD/ FLASH DRIVE/ VHS) and bring a flash drive to take home a digital file of your artwork. You’re also welcome to bring personal and found writings/poetry/words on the theme of migration; we will also be doing some writing and sound recording during the workshop.

Kari is an analog video artist from Oxnard, CA. Using video editors and circuit bent video hardware to glitch signals in ways that our brains processes emotions. Visually showing the thought process with electrical signals to validate the harmony of human emotion.
