Mejk and Mood: 2 FILMS BY CARLOS PEREZ

Carlos Pérez Rojas was a member of Video Tamix, an organization that during the 1990s made radio, video and community television, broadcasting from the Sierra Mixe of Oaxaca. As a Mixe indigenous filmmaker he has directed a several documentaries.

Mëjk is a documentary that follows the happenstances in the life of Genaro, who, while teaching grade school in a Mixe community in Oaxaca, Mexico, learns something himself.

Mood is a piece that was found while digitizing video recordings made by an indigenous  community organization called “Video Tamix”. During the 1990s, Video Tamix made radio, video and television in the Mixe Mountains of Mexico.

Carlos has taught video workshops in indigenous communities and has worked for the Tlachinollan Human Rights Center, documenting human rights violations with home video technology. He currently lives and works in Lyon, France. FILMMAKER IN ATTENDANCE!
