Los Angeles Plays Itself

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27 @ 7 PM – FRED HARVEY ROOM, UNION STATION

Metro Presents showcases an exciting array of free arts and cultural programs at historic Union Station. Join us for a free screening of the renowned documentary film “Los Angeles Plays Itself.” The screening will take place inside one of the iconic locations chronicled in the film: Union Station. Thom Andersen’s essay-like 2003 film is comprised of clips from films shot on location in our beloved city. Whether you’re a film aficionado, historian, urban planner, or simply a lover of Los Angeles, this is a film that fascinates. Over its three-hour duration, Andersen (a faculty member in Cal Arts’ film and video program) touches on classics and then-contemporaries, blockbusters and B-listers, foreign and local viewpoints. Taken together, the film analyzes how our city is portrayed as background, as character and as subject. FREE EVENT!
