JELL-O AND THE SPOKEN WORD

Saturday, May 27 at 8 PM

Artist and author Tom Duffy made his first film thirty years ago with a Vintage RCA Pro Wonder VHS Camcorder. In an effort to capture a vibrant community of actors he called family, Tom spun loose narratives that showcased both his paintings and their dramatic talents.  Co-founding House of the Foot Race in 1987 with Scott McKinley and Cathy Carlton Hews they pulled together meager budgets and willing friends to tell stories as disparate as the life of one-time first lady Ida Saxton McKinley (who suffered from epilepsy), and the murder of silent film actor Ramon Novarro (at the hands of two gay hustlers).  Consistent throughout Tom’s work is a celebration of writers (poets in particular), friendships (beloved actor Tom Fitzpatrick graces the screen in several projects), and the collaborative process that is film making. FILMMAKER IN ATTENDANCE!

This screening is made possible thanks to a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Doors 7:30 pm; $5 admission.
