L’Etna is an artist-run film lab and projection space that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The lab is situated in Montreuil, a suburb of Paris, which has a common history of experimentation and struggles: the original location of Georges Melies’ studios, its communist past and present, its famous experimental peach tree farming, its group associations.

The lab is a hands-on place to make experimental films but especially a collective place for screenings and group discussions around super-8 and 16mm film practices. It is a meeting point for the discussion of analog film and contemporary topics, a space for working collectively or individually, which hosts a feminist film group, and invites artists and collectives to present their work and teach classes and workshops about alternative filmmaking processes.

This screening will attempt to weave a variety of contemporary practices at Etna, from documentary to experimental, reflecting the engagements and singular visions of its filmmakers: from farming in Guadeloupe to the young Parisian skating scene, from underwater lights to explorations of the color of forest undergrowths. The program features works by Stéphanie Cazaentre, Frédérique Menant, Gianni Locatelli, David Matarasso, Alexandre Regol, Astrid de la Chapelle, Carole Grand, Tomaž Burlin, and Philippe Cote.
