Ricardo Leite was born in 1978 in São Paulo, Brazil. He studied cinema at Escola Superior Artística do Porto in 2000. He started processing his own super 8 films in his small lab in 1999. In 2004 he founded Atomo47, an independent film lab in Porto that is the only film laboratory still working in Portugal. Atomo47 is now working inside a foundation called Casa da Imagem. During the years he organized and participated in several shows, exhibitions, workshops and festivals all over the world. Having worked mainly in film and in the experimental genre, in 2011 he finished the documentary “Mazagão, the water that returns”, funded by ICA and RTP. In 2012 he started his PhD in Porto Fine Arts School with the thesis “biodegradable film processes in photography and cinema”. He is now finishing an experimental/documentary film: “Lucefece” – shot exclusively on film (super 8 and 16mm) and processed by himself for over 20 years. Currently, he is still researching new biodegradable processes, while trying to improve others already researched.
