FEMINIST BASED COMMUNITY TEACHING

Teacher, Filmmaker & Visionary Ariel Dougherty presents an array of girl/young women films created in women-lead community settings from the early 1970s and now. Via works like FEAR (7m, B&W, 1973 by Jean Shaw, Women Make Movies) and LAS MUJERES DENTRO DE MI (5m, B&W, 2013 by Anonymous, Girl Tech/Media Literacy Project), Ariel will show the significance of women-centered stories about girls/women’s every day lives. Ariel will also discuss the history and context of Women Make Movies community teaching program of the early 1970s and the rise of 19+ parallel, contemporary programs and how they all fit into a long continuum of film practitioner lead workshops from the Film and Photo League to Echo Park Film Center.
