Cool Alchemy: Blue Toning for Black and White Motion Picture Film
Saturday, September 21: 1 – 6 PM
Feeling blue? Join the party! Using both found footage and film shot and developed in class, this workshop will look at turning black and white super 8 and 16mm film into tones that range from blue to purple. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of household cleaning products such as dishwashing soap, laundry detergent or even shampoo to explore alternative and unpredictable methods of film toning. This workshop is open to filmmakers of all levels and experience. All materials (except for soap) are provided.
Instructor Biography:
For over ten years Eric Stewart has been teaching analogue filmmaking workshops and creating experimental films. He holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Eric previously taught Super 8mm filmmaking at the University of Colorado Boulder and served as Assistant Professor of Photography at Adams State University. He currently lives in Vermont and teaches an experimental video course at Keene State College. He was awarded the 2015 Mono No Aware Award for Excellence in Filmmaking at the Haverhill Experimental Film Festival and his films have shown at: The Yerba Buena Center for Fine Arts (SF), Yale University, Crossroads Film Festival (SF Cinematheque), 25fps (Zagreb), the Florida Experimental Film Festival and elsewhere.
