MARVELOUS MOVIE MONDAYS!!

Theme: Inner Thoughts

Title: The Occupant
Filmmaker: Elise Simard

I first saw this piece years ago when I was working as a pre-screener for the Nashville Film Festival. It’s highly personal, whispering to the viewer some simple secrets of life. Some of these text passages caused tiny explosions of affirmation in my head the first time I saw it, and they still ring true for me now after all this time. I hope they do the same for you.

I encountered this film as a curator for Happy Family Night Market’s film series, which explores Asian and Asian American identity expressed through food. I appreciated this film’s playful tone—older people are rarely depicted as having such energy and verve. Another perspective on the theme of Aging.
